all about color & design

Dot Dot Color

Color and design have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I literally grew up in a print shop (more on that in my post Growing up in a Print Shop), where I learned early that color isn’t just pretty — it’s technical, emotional, and sometimes wildly misunderstood.

As a freelance graphic designer, I’m constantly asked questions like, “Which colors should I use for my logo?” “Why are there so many color numbers?” and “What’s the difference between CMYK, RGB, and HEX?”

I’ve known those answers for years. The real challenge wasn’t understanding color — it was learning how to explain it clearly without overwhelming people or disappearing into the technical weeds. Those conversations eventually led me to write Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Color — a way to put it all in one place.

This blog continues that same mission.

Here, I break down color theory, color psychology, and color space in practical, approachable ways so you can stop second-guessing and start choosing with confidence. Because once you really understand color, it becomes one of the most powerful tools in your brand — not just something that looks good, but something that works.

If color has ever felt confusing, overly technical, or harder than it should be, you’re in the right place.
